BUSINESS CLASS- BOEING 747

QANTAS 747 LEAVING SYDNEY

QANTAS 747 LEAVING SYDNEY

This upgrade to business class was a complete surprise to us- we found out at the airport (not even at check in- at the departure gate!). To say we were shocked was an understatement. Just half an hour earlier, I had mentioned (ie: whinged) to my husband that I hope the person sitting infront of me wasn't a serial recliner.  Well.......little did I know!

SERVICE

This was the older Boeing 747 and the staff are mature and very professional. I have noticed on A380 Qantas flights the staff are younger and have a bit more of a spring in their step- a cheeky joke or laugh in the galley- there was none of this with the 747 crew. They were friendly and lovely, just not as laid back as some of the younger crew we have experienced.

SEAT

Very comfortable, although it wasn't a full recline it still provided a great bed-like seat that I got a few hours sleep in (we left in the morning, so when I started to get tired it was near the end of the flight). We got the two seats on the outer perimeter of the plane- I wouldn't have been very comfortable if I got the centre seat in the middle section of three- it looked really hard to climb over the people while they were fully reclined and asleep!

FOOD

Nice food selection- we were served three full meals- lunch, dinner and breakfast. I chose a pasta dish, a vegetarian dish and the hot selection of eggs for breakfast. All really good quality, piping hot and I would have been happy to have any of these served to me in a restaurant. Great wine selection that is constantly topped up- without having to ask. Always a plus!

OVERALL

I highly recommend Qantas business class long haul product- next time I would probably try and secure A380 flights (the later flight of the two out of Sydney to Los Angeles). I believe most 747's have been fitted out with new interior now, but this wasn't the case when we flew with them. The A380 is also a much smoother and quieter flight in general. I cant complain- this was a complimentary upgrade and we appreciated it SO much!
