Travel + Food Blog

Have you ever had one of those nights that is just so perfect you never want it to end? That's what my husband and I experienced when we dined at La Lucciola in Seminyak. We have previously been to lunch there a handful of times, but this visit stood out. From start to finish everything was perfection- the table, the view, the sunset, the food, the wine and most definitely the company.

Our hotel concierge had booked us a table upstairs just as the sun was setting. La Lucciola is an open air traditional thatched Balinese restaurant in design, with a modern Italian menu. The design of the restaurant is simple but stunning- twinkle lights everywhere, soft mood lighting and wooden furniture. The view and colours from the sunset were beyond breathtaking- combine this with the warm breeze, the sounds of waves crashing and the whole ambiance of being in Bali, I can't think of anywhere more romantic in the world. It's just fancy enough to make your evening special, without being uncomfortably pretentious. My husband and I don't do pretentious venues very well!

Our waiter promptly arrives and introduces himself and presents us with the menu. We start with drinks ( beer and white wine) and some complimentary bread and olive oil for dipping. The menu has a good selection of everything- especially for the non-meat eater like myself- so we decide to order three dishes to share. The tomato mozzarella and basil salad, the salt and pepper squid, and the creamy mushroom gnocchi. All three meals are excellent quality. The tomato salad was bursting with flavour, the squid was tender and the gnocchi was literally melt in your mouth. We finish with the most amazing tasting plate for dessert- every mouthful was to die for and had a unique flavour (such as the lemongrass brulee).

After dinner, we slip our shoes off and slowly walk along the beach back to our hotel for a nightcap.  Stretching this magical night out as long as we could.

Best to make reservations in advance, this place is popular for good reason!
