NEPENTHE BIG SUR

This is an absolute must do when you are travelling the scenic route down Hwy 1 from San Francisco to Los Angeles, or vice versa. It is absolutely and positively breathtaking. Photos will never do it justice, but on a clear day you can see for miles and the crisp air and stunning coastline of big sur is completely rejuvenating.

PROPERTY

There are 2 options for dining- the restaurant is situated upstairs and the very casual cafe is downstairs on the lower patio. Both have absolutely amazing views over the coast, so you really cant go wrong with either location. It is a fairly large property with both indoor and outdoor seating- we did not make any reservations but did see a line start to develop as we were leaving.

FOOD

Home style food such a burgers and sandwich melts. Their famous ambrosia burger is the most popular item on the menu, but we opt for a light cobb salad full of crisp veges and jam packed with crumbled blue cheese. Its just what we feel like on a hot day. Prices are on the high side- around $18 for a burger, but you are also paying for this spectacular view and it's worth every penny.

SERVICE

Friendly and down to earth. We feel very welcome and relaxed.

OVERALL

A definite must do! Next time we will be stopping in Big Sur for a night or two- it's too beautiful to just pass through and only spend a few hours in.
