CITRON RESTAURANT

VICEROY HOTEL- PALM SPRINGS, CA

After a full day basking in the sun, reading fashion magazines and sipping on cool drinks (yes- it was a tough day), we slip into our evening attire and head straight to the Viceroy's restaurant- Citron. My husband and I couldn't have been in a better mood on our second night in Palm Springs. We woke up feeling really well rested and refreshed after a solid nights sleep in our beautiful villa. Off to dinner we go!

This gorgeous indoor/outdoor restaurant is in a truly beautiful and unique setting. The inside is predominantly decked out in yellow (as the name suggests!)- it overlooks one of the hotel's pools and is very bright and modern in design. I would describe it as being "smart casual"- not stuffy at all - which is perfect for us. I love getting a bit glammed up, but not feeling uncomfortable in over-the-top restaurants that eye your every move. We feel at ease as soon as we are greeted by the lovely wait staff, who take our drink orders immediately after being seated. We "cheers" to the start of our adventure and hold hands over the table- (revoltingly mushy I know)- but it was truly a beautiful night and we were really excited to start our holiday. Very happy people at a truly beautiful place.

Our friendly waiter promptly takes our order and we are served our main courses within (what seems like) no time at all. We ordered the below spread:

SHRIMP TACOS: Chipotle Aioli, Shaved Cabbage, Pico de Gallo, & Salsa Roja. These soft shell tacos had little bursts of flavour in every bite- they were SO tasty! The shrimp were really fresh and not too strong in flavour- which was perfect for me. Some prawns taste really- well, too prawny. Ok, I'll stop right there, I'm sounding ridiculous. Prawns that taste too prawny? What next- bread that tastes too bready?

NAAN FLATBREAD: Roasted Garlic Marinated Tomatoes, Asiago & Burrata Cheese, Grilled Vegetables, Piquillo Peppers, Olives, topped with Baby Wild Arugula, and Lemon Vinaigrette. Once again, this dish was very flavourful. It was like a soft based pizza- it normally comes with prosciutto but we asked for it to be left off. This was surprisingly filling and really satisfying. The crisp peppery rocket compliments it perfectly.

FRESH GRILLED ASPARAGUS: to share- tossed in olive oil and perfectly crisp. Delish.

The produce is obviously super fresh and great quality at Citron- it's evident in every dish we order. The ambiance is perfect- very romantic and just the right level of service to have a special meal. We really took our time over our dinner- watching the sun creep down slowly, ordering more drinks and witnessing the sky change breathtaking shades of blue- it almost seemed impossible to be that beautiful - each shade better than the next.

For anyone visiting the area of Palm Springs Citron is definitely worth a visit- whether you are staying at the property or even just want a drink or snack. It's truly a stunning property with delicious food- and has something for everyone.

For full disclosure: my husband and I received a generous discount on food and beverage but this did not influence this review at all. Pinky swear. I'm not that fickle!
