A beautifully decorated restaurant- full of fresh flowers, pot plants, big bowls of fruit and a shabby chic interior, this is the second boat house restaurant to hit Sydney's shores (the original is at Palm Beach). The location can't be beaten, on a boardwalk at arguably the most beautiful beach in Sydney- the Boat House ticks all the right boxes for an amazing meal. Unfortunately the chaos in it's seating/ordering system really lets it down. You line up for what feels like 30 minutes- then you order at the counter, take a number for your table and try and find yourself a seat (which can take another 30 minutes). You try your hardest not to hover over people's tables and make them feel hurried- but its unavoidable when the restaurant gets so full. The management at the boat house could easily change this and simply have table service and take reservations. It would make for a much nicer dining experience.
FOOD
Their fish and chips are amazing. The chips are fluffy in the middle and golden crispy on the outside. The fish is beautiful quality flat head and not frozen. The homemade tartar is to die for. The menu has a fairly limited selection, but everything on offer sounds delicious. We also have a lentil salad and cheese platter- both are really tasty and I would highly recommend these items- but the fish and chips are the standout. The prices are high- but you are also paying for location. The water views out on the deck are divine on a clear day.
SERVICE
Lovely staff- genuinely very helpful and friendly. Wait staff deliver meals with a smile and laid back attitude. They have a tough gig- every time I have been here it's busy and chaotic!
OVERALL
Perfect spot for an out of town visitor or weekend brunch. Keep in mind you really need to have some patience when dining here. The food is good, the location is perfect, but it really needs to sort out the way orders are taken and seating is arranged!
